The CROSSROADS FILM FESTIVAL (April 6-9), our second visit to
Mississippi, was as promised, a very fresh event. This is Crossroads’
christening year as a film festival, becoming the second film
festival out of Mississippi. Unfortunately as most smaller fests
do, all of the awards went to local Mississippi filmmakers.
This is not uncommon, but is always a bit disheartening for everyone
else who is not from Mississippi.
And, unfortunately, due to uncontrollable circumstances, headliner
Robert Altman was unable to attend. This was a bit disappointing,
but also a bit expected. That said, Crossroads is a wonderfully
quaint festival (especially if you’re a MS native) and will no
doubt grow in years to come. I have a feeling the two Mississippi
fests will pool their efforts together for one large fest instead
of two smaller ones.
You can check out our review in the Clarion
Ledger if you haven’t already. We were reviewed the first time
we screened in Mississippi (and it was so good) they just opted
to use that same one again - and so did we.
