There are many unexpected moments when making any film, regardless of the budget, location and circumstances. Needless to say there were many unexpected moments in the making of The Innocents.

We filmed in and around small towns in Bloomington, Indiana to capture that unspoiled feeling of the mid-west in early 1960's America. One of the essential locations for our story was a swimming hole where the girls first become friends and begin to learn about each others past.

After the first swimming hole we scouted dried up over night, we were forced to find another - a small lake just outside of town. Unfortunately this lake did not have a dock (like the first swimming hole) allowing us to more easily film from and since we couldn't afford the $200 to rent a rowboat - that's three days of craft service - we just stayed in the water pretty much all day. We shot all three swimming hole scenes in one day....and as you can tell from this photo Katherine Griffin (writer/director, actress) spent most of that day treading water. Here she is directing fellow actors and setting up the next shot from the middle of the lake.
