Making a great film takes many talented and often generous people all working together for a common goal; to bring to life the screenplay in the best way possible.
At the 2006 Cannes Film Festival we we're introduced to a casting director named Shaila Rubin. We immediately hit it off and our little meeting turned into lunch, which turned into dinner. And after reading Katherine's script on the plane back to Italy Shaila invited Katherine to join her at her office in Rome to discuss casting her next film Butterflies & Lightning.

Shaila became an immediate driving force getting behind our film and helping us get the script out to people we all agreed would be a perfect fit for the leading roles. But, more importantly, Shaila became a friend who helped us anyway that she could without ever asking for anything in return. Her generosity and her wisdom and complete honesty in every situation will be dearly missed. Shaila Rubin has passed away at the age of seventy-one. She began her career as a sound editor in the U.S. before moving to Italy and becoming a much sought after, much loved casting director and occasional actress.
