There is plenty of magic involved in making a film. Any film. Real magic.
And when you do it right the payoff is just as big.

It can be somewhat difficult to shoot a period film without lots of dough. You have to pinch the piggy quite tight whenever possible.

For instance, the scene when the girls' red pickup breaks down and they hitch a ride with a passing apple truck. We found this great old truck that we decided was perfect for the scene ("perfect" when we found out we could use it for free). Of course, the owner downplayed a minor problem with the vehicle. As a result, the truck is only seen on film two times, once moving toward camera and once moving away, both times are less than five seconds...

Translation: The truck didn't actually run for more than a hundred feet at a time. But it looked perfect for the film. And that's all that counts. So when it came time for the girls to ride in the back and bounce around on that "country road" the only thing moving on that truck were the shocks and the four crew memebers bouncing up and down on the side rails. Isn't editing great.
